Dan Becker

We honor Dan Becker, a remarkable figure in basketball with over 30 years of experience as both a player and coach. Dan’s journey began at Fort Richmond Collegiate, where he led the Centurions to a Junior Varsity Provincial Championship in 1982 and earned MVP honors. His talent took him to NCAA Division 1 basketball at St. Joseph’s University and the University of Colorado, where he excelled as a 3-year starter.

Dan’s professional career spanned 12 years, playing in various leagues worldwide, including the Winnipeg Thunder and Cyclone. He even had the opportunity to try out for the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers. Representing Team Canada, Dan competed in prestigious events like the World Universiade Games and the Jones Cups.

Transitioning to coaching, Dan has made significant contributions at multiple levels. He completed his NCCP Level 4 education and served as an assistant and interim head coach at the University of Manitoba. Dan led Basketball Manitoba’s Provincial Teams to notable successes, including a historic Gold Medal at the 2014 National Championship.

From 2005 to 2010, Dan’s leadership with the Oak Park Raiders resulted in two Provincial Championships and five consecutive Final Four appearances. He also coached the University of Winnipeg Collegiate Varsity team and various grassroots programs.
